Steampunk Decorating: A Different Type of Vintage Style

Filed under: vintage decorating, wall stickers, wall decals — admin @ 4:20 pm

We’ve been talking about finding your decorating style and one style which is becoming popular is Steampunk. When you hear Steampunk, think Victorian or Vintage style but with a technological or modern bent. This is sort of like Jules Verne, a vintage style with brass, rivets, glass, leather, or gears. If you can imagine a parallel world where Victorian times had computers, ray guns, or robots, you have the idea of Steampunk.

People who are decorating with Steampunk are all about details. A steampunk kitchen would have Vintage touches like antique fixtures, older style tilework, or old glass bottles on display. It also often has a touch of whimsy, for instance with using gears or found items for door handles or reusing old items in odd ways.

Wall Decals which would work well with this style include: Ceiling wall stickers, Compass decals, Birdcage stickers or Damask wall decals.

Three Steps to Define Your Decorating Style – Vintage

Finally, the last decorating style we will discuss in our series Three Steps to Define Your Decorating Style will be the Vintage style. Last time we discussed the Cozy decorating style and in this article we will discuss what it means to have a Vintage Style.

Being vintage in your decorating shows that you have a rich, layered style. Flea market find combined with antiques and diverse accessories will thrive together. Furnishings that are collectible (like Grandma’s teacups), look timeworn (like a Persian rug) or handmade really make this style sing.

If you are vintage, you’ll want to decorate with:

  • Lots of rich wall art and accents everywhere, even on the furnishings
  • Jewel tones combined with more muted washed out colors
  • Furniture with shape and intricacy
  • A mix of fabrics throughout the room and windows, ie.) tapestries, paisleys, and jacquards
  • Embellished lamps and crystal chandeliers
  • Botanicals, florals and folksy items
  • A mix of antique and newer items that work together

Wall Slicks that go well with this style are: Paisley wall stickers, Rococo wall decals and our Bird Branch, Blossoms and Botanicals wall stickers.

Three Steps to Define Your Decorating Style – Cozy

Now we move on to an article addressing the Cozy Decorating style. This is another installment in our Three Steps to Define Your Decorating Style series. Last time we discussed the Modern decorating style and in this article we will discuss what it means to have a Cozy Style.

Being cozy in your decorating has a relaxed and inviting look. It’s warm, traditional and built for daily activities and visits from family and friends. You’ll find influences from English and early-American furniture designs popping up and even farmhouse, cottage and country can be a part of this style. Furnishings that are weathered and wear well keep this look very livable.

If you are cozy, you’ll want to decorate with:

  • Solid textiles
  • Solid furnishings that can stand up to lots of wear
  • Plush upholstery, even slipcovers
  • Sofas with squared or rolled arms
  • Natural fabrics like wool or cotton for upholstery, pillows and drapes
  • Simple stripes
  • Muted and unfussy florals
  • Warm wood tones that look weathered or distressed

Wall Slicks that go well with this style are: Stripes wall stickers, Sea Shells wall decals and our Bloom Florals wall stickers.

Three Steps to Define Your Decorating Style – Modern

It’s time to talk about the modern decorating style. This is another installment in our Three Steps to Define Your Decorating Style series. Last time we discussed the Classic decorating style and in this article we will discuss what it means to have a Modern Style.
Being modern decorator is a fresh, fun and contemporary. The look is edgy, urban and colorful. The furnishings are kept simple and the eyes are drawn to bold accents and colors. Images to inspire you could be a downtown loft, a Modern Art museum and even architect Frank Lloyd Wright.
If you are modern, you’ll want to decorate with:

  • Clean lined furniture with no embellishments on the legs.
  • Strong blocks of color
  • Geometric and abstract patterns (easy to layer and create with Wall Slicks)
  • Boxy shaped sofas
  • A mix of natural wood colors both light and dark

Wall Slicks that go well with this style are: Checkers wall stickers, Mechanix wall decals and our Zebra Stripes wall stickers.

Colorful Kids Room Decorating

Just starting out with your kids room decorating or looking to refresh a current space? Being creative with your use of color can inspire enthusiasm and creativity in children of all ages! Finding a color scheme that pleases both the parent and child is the winning combination. Not sure where to turn for inspiration? Here’s some tips.
Primary Colors
Primary colors are a classic theme. There’s a lot you can do combining red, yellow and blue together with varying intensity. If you like a bold look, choose fire engine red, sunshine yellow and royal blue. Looking for a more sophisticated way to incorporate these colors? Consider cranberry, golden amber and navy. Finally, pastel lovers can go with light pink, butter yellow and sky blue. Based on their relationship to each other on the color wheel, these colors work well together, as long as you keep the intensity the same.
Add Personal Touches to Furnishings
You don’t have to replace furnishings to coordinate them with the style of your room. Those with artistic talent can paint free hand designs or stencils on their furniture to match it with the color palette, wall décor or theme of the room. An easier option is wall decals which can be used both on the wall and on the furniture. Available in over 40 colors, Wall Slicks is sure to have a color to suit your project. See the color swatches online or request one via mail for a perfect match.
Race Track Wall Decals
Don’t Forget the Floor
If you have wooden floors, Wall Stickers can add a great accent on the floors too. This is especially true with our Race Track design. Great for a built in, custom play area. And, when the kids outgrow it, it’s easy to remove with no residue left behind.
Theme Rooms
Wall Slicks come in so many designs, it’s easy to browse our web site for inspiration and find the perfect images to create a theme your kids will love. Already have a theme in mind but don’t see the decal to match it? We can create custom decals at your request. You just pay by the square foot. Call us for more details.

Wall Decals are the Perfect Gift for Your Graduate

Graduation Day is coming for a number of young adults, it’s a day to reflect on their accomplishments and to look towards the future. A lot of graduates are already thinking about the fall and the continuation of their education. This can often mean leaving home and moving into a dorm room or apartment. When they get there, it will be important to make this new space their own and there is no better way to achieve a quick, easy, stylish look than with Wall Slicks, wall decals, the perfect gift for your graduate.

One of the challenges with temporary living is creating your own style while dealing with drab white walls. Most landlords frown on repainting and wallpapering. Some don’t even want you to put holes in the walls using nails or pins. This is why wall stickers are the answer. They come in a wide range of subjects, styles and colors and you can mix and match to create a look that’s all your own.

Dorm rooms are notorious for being small, cramped, boring spaces and can be difficult and expensive to furnish. Wall decals are an easy way to add interest to any room and can be applied to mirrors, cabinets or furniture. What better way to express your personality? And the best part is that at the end of the year, they are easily removed without damaging surfaces.

Western Decorating Inspiration

Filed under: western decorating, wall stickers, wall decals — admin @ 5:40 pm

Cowboy Stand Western Wall Decals

If you take a trip to Northern Nevada, evidence of a western heritage is all around and can be a great inspiration for home decorating. Old bits, spurs, saddles, woven blankets, Indian baskets, blue glass bottles and old photos are just a sampling of items to be found at local garage sales, flea markets and antique shops. Once acquired, these items can be incorporated into very stylish displays.

For a rugged outdoors look, an old coat rack with a combination of western memorabilia would make an interesting corner display. Some items that could be used are cowboy hats, Indian blankets, coiled ropes, an old horse bridle, cowboy boots and a Western saddle. To add even more interest and color, add a wall decal of running wild horses, a group of cowboys, a tree, a picket fence or maybe some ironwork motifs to help draw the eye to your display.

For more refined tastes set up a display of wash bowls and pitchers, heirloom china, old photos and antique bottles on a table. Wall decals are an easy and inexpensive way to add a Victorian look with borders or a bit of whimsy with a bird cage or a branch with birds. The possibilities are endless and limited only by your imagination.

Celebrate Earth Day with Green Wall Decals

Today we celebrate the 40th Anniversary of Earth Day. Founded in 1970 by U.S. Senator Gaylord Nelson as an environmental teach-in, it is now celebrated annually through-out the world as a way to inspire awareness and appreciation for the Earth’s environment.

If being green in your home and office is important to you, you’ll be happy to know that our Wall Slicks wall decals are Green certified! What does this mean? The raw vinyl we use has the most green process of any vinyl manufacturer and the company that makes the vinyl has met the predetermined standards to reduce environmental impact.

Also, the water-based adhesive used to apply the decals contains no-odor or volatile chemical content. This is very important when decorating the baby nursery or your children’s rooms and your own bedroom, for that matter. It’s a good feeling to know that your decorating product is not omitting any toxic chemicals into your home or office that could jeopardize your health.

If you live a green life, and you want to create a healthy environment in your home or office that spread out to your decorating choices, you’ll appreciate this green DIY decorating fact from Modern Wall Graphics.

And, if you like “earthy” images, take a look at this beautiful Oak Tree wall sticker and our other tree wall decals for decorating inspiration!Oak Tree Wall Sticker

Happy Earth Day to you!
